It was her destiny although she turned her back on her upbringing

The church stepped on her growing faith with criticism and condemnation

She thought she could find comfort in the pews, but all she received was rebuke

For her, nothing of value would come from staring at a cross that represented pain

There was no love associated with the symbol

All she understood was unforgivenss and no one told her otherwise

She found it hard to believe in the promises she found in the bible

The life she could have had was distorted by what she remembered about the cross and what it could not mean to her now

All it became was a symbol she hid in the closet along with faith.
